'That sniper shot rattled my skeleton'. A podcast with Kanupriya Kapoor
In this Reuters podcast, Kanupriya Kapoor, a Reuters correspondent based in Jakarta, talks about her experiences while covering terrorist attacks and natural disasters in Indonesia as well as the battle for the Philippine city of Marawi and how she has managed the stress of reporting on disasters and conflict.
In late December 2018, she took charge of coordinating coverage of a tsunami that killed at least 430 people on the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra – the second tsunami in Indonesia in four months.
Kanu explains how she stays balanced and focused and how she relaxes back home in Jakarta (by playing the drums!). She also talks about the challenges of working as an Asian woman in dangerous places.
From witnessing her first riot in Indonesia at the age of 10 to going to boarding school in Wales with a former child soldier from Somalia, Kanu has a fascinating story to tell. She was interviewed in Jakarta by Raju Gopalakrishnan, an editor with the Asia top news team.
